School-leaving certificate from a German Gymnasium
Foreign graduates of a German Gymnasium are considered to be domestic applicants (Bildungsinländer), meaning they are treated as German applicants for the purpose of admission. The criteria for degree programmes with limited admission and for programmes of study involving an aptitude assessment process apply.
School-leaving certificate from a PASCH school
A foreign graduate of a PASCH school may or may not be considered a domestic applicant (Bildungsinländer) for the purpose of admission. For those who are considered domestic applicants (Bildungsinländer), the criteria for degree programmes with limited admission and for programmes ofstudy involving an aptitude assessment process apply.
If the foreign graduate of a PASCH school is not considered a domestic applicant (Bildungsinländer), his or her application will not be processed in the same way as for German applicants. It must be determined whether a direct qualification for entry into higher education (whether subject-related or general) is present or whether additional qualifications are required. If it is determined that the applicant is required to first attend a Studienkolleg as an additional prerequisite, he or she must apply to do so at the university that he or she wishes to attend.

2.Studienkolleg
A Studienkolleg is a special type of educational institution in Germany. Although they are located in Germany, graduates of such institutions are not considered to be domestic applicants (Bildungsinländer), but rather international applicants. Successfully completing the aptitude assessment process at a Studienkolleg provides the applicant with a subject-related qualification for entry to higher education and evidence of the requisite proficiency in the German language.
Studienkolleg graduates are therefore not required to take the DSH examination. The criteria for degree programmes with limited admission and for programmes of study involving an aptitude assessment process apply.

3.International Baccalaureate
Successful completion of the International Baccalaureate programme can also serve as a general or subject-related qualification for entry into higher education if certain requirements are met.The criteria for degree programmes with limited admission and for programmes of study involving an aptitude assessment process apply.
If you have not yet received your IB diploma or if your IB grades do not meet the requirements, you will need submit a request for an evaluation of credentials to Bavaria’s Office of Foreign Credential Recognition (Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle).

Applicants with a school-leaving certificate from a country overseas (i.e. a non-EU country) are not treated the same as German applicants for the purposes of admission. The criteria for degree programmes with limited admission and for programmes of study involving an aptitude assessment process apply.
It must first be determined whether a subject-related or general qualification for direct entry to higher education is present or whether an additional qualification is required. Applicants can check this quickly and easily using the anabin database (the official database of Germany’s Central Office for Foreign Educational Credentials). If it is determined that the applicant is required to first attend a Studienkolleg as an additional prerequisite, he or she must apply to do so at the university that he or she wishes to attend.

2.Doctoral research at the University of Bayreuth
International students interested in pursuing doctoral research at the University of Bayreuth have several options to choose from. You can do your doctorate in a structured programme at one of ourGraduate Centres or carry out your doctoral research individually at one of the University’s six faculties. Prospective doctoral researchers must first find a supervisor. Your doctoral research can commence once an instructor at the University has agreed to supervise your research.
Please note: The University of Bayreuth does not provide any full scholarships.
The University of Bayreuth Graduate School
If you are a university graduate who has already formulated a thesis proposal, you should get in touch with a professor in the relevant field and request that he or she supervise your thesis. Once a professor has agreed to act as your supervisor, you will need to submit your application to the Student Administration Office (Studierendenkanzlei).
The University of Bayreuth Graduate School provides a range of services to support doctoral researchers at the University of Bayreuth. Membership is open to all doctoral candidates at the graduate centres and six faculties.
The International Office then determines whether the formal requirements have been met. Applicants can check whether the formal requirements have been met using the anabin database (the official database of Germany’s Central Office for Foreign Educational Credentials)

1.Exchange HideExchange students are students from partner universities who study at the University of Bayreuth (e.g. as ERASMUS students) for one or two semesters. Information on exchange opportunities is available from your home university. The application is completed online. Please apply via the "moveonline" portal.
When applying, please have the following documents at hand:
Your tentative Learning Agreement
A copy of your identification (passport or national ID card)
A passport photo
The letter of confirmation, filled out and signed by your coordinator
Evidence of proficiency in the German language (e. g. a Goethe Certificate) or the English language (TOEFL or IELTS) if you are not a native speaker and would like to apply for the programme Study of Religion
Evidence of proficiency in English (TOEFL or IELTS) if you would like to apply for English Studies

International students who do not study at a partner university but would like to spend one or two semesters at the University of Bayreuth are asked to apply as “free movers” . You will be asked to submit a statement by a supervisor at the University of Bayreuth who is willing to supervise your work. You will have to find a supervisor yourself in advance of your stay.

Language courses
For students who will arrive in Bayreuth before the 18th of April, we offer German intensive courses, which will take place from April 10th to April 21st.The fee for the courses is 130 € / week. The course can be booked as a two week course or per week.
Orientation
To ensure you an easy orientation at the beginning we offer a mandatory Orientation Week! Important information about the university routine will be provided and you can ask first questions about classes, schedules, etc. The Preparatory Course takes place from April 18th to 22nd and will provide you with important information about studying at the University of Bayreuth.
We offer 8 classes regarding your language level (we also offer English classes).

(1)General Admission Requirements and Deadlines
Admission requirements for studying at the University of Bayreuth vary depending on the programme of study. Some programmes require an aptitude assessment process, while others have specific enrolment limits (a so-called numerus clausus).
Study slots in degree programmes with restricted admission are allotted to international applicants by way of a ranking established on the basis of grades and additional achievements.
The International Office checks each degree student’s application to determine whether the prerequisites for direct entry have been met or whether the applicant would first have to attend a Studienkolleg and complete an aptitude assessment process. This enables one to earn a higher education entrance qualification.

(2)Language Requirements
The University of Bayreuth offers programmes of study in German, English, and French. Applicants are required to submit evidence of their language skills.
German-Taught Programmes of Study
Admission to a bachelor’s or master’s programme requires proficiency in German at the level of “B2”. Language certificates (e.g. TestDaF or DSH) must be submitted by the time of enrolment. By the time of enrolment, applicants must demonstrate the required German language proficiency (e.g. by passing a B2-level language exam, the TestDaF, or the DSH 2). Specific language requirements can be found in the relevant examination regulations.
The IIK Bayreuth, which is affiliated with the University of Bayreuth, offers German courses in preparation for the TestDAF and DSH examinations.
English-Taught Programmes of Study
Enrolling in an English-taught programme of study at the University of Bayreuth requires an excellent command of English. This must be demonstrated by submitting a TOEFL or IELTS certificate that is no older than two years.
French-Taught Programme of Study
The chairs for Romance Literature & Comparative Studies and Romance & General Linguistics offer the programme of study known as Études Francophones.

(3)Teacher Education, State Examinations in Law, Bachelor’s Programmes
All certificates must be submitted in their original language (notarized copy) along with a certified English or German translation (if required). Evidence of proficiency in the German language must also be notarized. Such confirmation need not be in the form of a DSH or TestDaF certificate.

(4)Master’s Programmes
The University of Bayreuth’s International Office reviews all applications for postgraduate study for ensure that the formal requirements have been fulfilled. Applicants should also get in touch with the programme advisors in a timely manner, since they are responsible for determining subject-related (and sometimes linguistic) aptitude.
Some master’s programmes require additional forms to be submitted online.
All certificates must be submitted in the original language with a certified translation (if necessary) in English or German. A certified copy of your certificate of German language proficiency is also required. This does not limited to a B2 certificate, the DSH, or a TestDaF certificate.
Once your application has been received, the International Office will check whether your qualifications meet the requirements of the University of Bayreuth. If so, you will receive a letter of admission from our Student Administration Office (Studierendenkanzlei) in the German language (and in certain cases in English). The International Office will also forward your documents to the Student Administration Office, which is responsible for enrolment.
